Australian pop girl group Bardot, was formed in 1999 and consisted of Belinda Chapple, Sophie Monk, Sally Polihronas, Katie Underwood, and Tiffani Wood. The group emerged from the reality television series Popstars, which attracted high ratings and significant media exposure. Bardot's formation was marked by controversy when original member Chantelle Barry departed abruptly. Tiffani Wood replaced her, and the group named themselves after French actress Brigitte Bardot. The success of Popstars translated into instant record sales success for the group. Their debut single "Poison" entered the Australian singles chart at Number 1, selling over 60,000 copies in its first week and gaining double platinum status. Their self-titled debut album also entered the charts at Number 1, with Bardot setting a record by becoming the first Australian act to debut in the top position with both its debut single and debut album. The album went on to sell over double platinum copies and was the 20th highest selling album in Australia for 2000. Following Underwood's departure, Bardot released their second album Play It Like That (2001), featuring top-five singles "ASAP" and "I Need Somebody". The group disbanded in early 2002 but reunited for a compilation release, Greatest Hits, in 2021.
