Golden Apes, a German rock band from Berlin, was formed in 1998 by Peer Lebrecht (vocals), Christian Lebrecht (bass), and Eric Bahrs (guitar). The band's name referenced Friedrich Nietzsche’s Also sprach Zarathustra. Their debut album, Stigma 3:am was released in 2000 and received critical acclaim for its dark wave/post-punk influences. In 2001, the band’s lineup expanded with the addition of drummer Nestor de Valley in 2001, followed by the release of their second album, Thalassemia (Yesterday and Other Centuries) (2001). In 2019, Golden Apes achieved chart success with Kasbek (2019), reaching number five on the German Alternative Charts. The band also celebrated its 20th anniversary with a concert featuring Steve Hewitt of Placebo. Following internal disputes, several members left the band. Golden Apes released the single "Satori", featuring guest musicians, in 2021 and the album Our Ashes at the End of the Day in 2024.
