Partners in Kryme, an American hip hop duo from New York City, consisted of James Alpern and Richard Usher, known by their stage names DJ Keymaster Snow and MC Golden Voice respectively. The group gained significant attention with their debut single "Turtle Power!", written for and featured in the 1990 film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The song became an international hit, reaching Number 13 on the US charts and topping the UK charts for four weeks. Despite the success of "Turtle Power!", Partners in Kryme released only two singles, "Undercover" and "Love 2 Love U", with the latter appearing on the soundtrack of Cool as Ice. In May 2015, they released a new single titled "Rock the Halfshell", centered around the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, marking a notable return to music after many years. The duo's rise to fame was marked by an interesting anecdote: Usher revealed in an interview that Partners in Kryme had no prior knowledge of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise and based the lyrics for "Turtle Power!" on a synopsis provided by the producers. This led to a notable error in the song, where Raphael is incorrectly referred to as the "leader of the group." By the time they realized their mistake, the song was already completed and filming for the movie was nearly finished.
