The Spazzys were formed in Melbourne, Australia, in 2000 by twin sisters Katerina Ljubicic and Lucy Ljubicic, who adopted the stage names Kat and Lucy Spazzy, along with schoolmate Alice McNamara, known as Ally Spazzy. The trio began performing as a pop‑punk outfit without formal training, quickly gaining local attention with a DIY approach that included borrowing instruments and practicing in spare time. Their breakthrough came with the release of the single "My Boyfriend's Back" in February 2005, which reached Number 24 on the ARIA Singles Chart. In September 2004, the band issued their debut album Aloha! Go Bananas, which entered the AIR independent chart at Number one and peaked within the top 60 of the ARIA Albums Chart. Subsequent releases included the EP I Met Her at the 7‑11 and the second album Dumb Is Forever, finally issued in 2011 after legal disputes delayed its launch; the album received positive reviews for its blend of punk energy and pop sensibilities. The Spazzys supported acts such as The Buzzcocks, The Datsuns, and international artists. including The Distillers, and performed at major festivals, including the Big Day Out and the Falls Festival. Their discography and touring history contributed to the Australian pop‑punk scene during the early 2000s, with chart success and notable media appearances underscoring their impact.
