Carl Hession was an Irish composer, arranger, and pianist from Galway. Hession received All-Ireland titles as a soloist and as a member of trios with flute player Matt Molloy and accordionist Joe Burke. He studied classical piano at University College Cork, specializing in keyboard improvisation. Following his education, Hession performed with violinist Stéphane Grappelli and was a member of the ceili band Shaskeen. He collaborated with Frankie Gavin on the recording The Full Score and performed with Joe Derrane, Mary Coughlan, and Louis Stewart. Hession was a member of the group Moving Cloud, releasing the albums Moving Cloud (1995) and Fox Glove (1998). He arranged music for the National Dance Company of Ireland’s Rhythm of the Dance and the album Songs My Mother Taught Me. Hession taught music at Coláiste Iognáid and Yeats College before his retirement.
