The Lungau Big Band, an Austrian big band from the Lungau region of Salzburg, was founded in 1983 by trumpeter Horst Hofer. Initially, the band performed traditional arrangements of classic big band repertoire by artists such as Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, and Tommy Dorsey. Over time, they transitioned to modern big band literature, incorporating works by Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Thad Jones, Toshiko Akiyoshi, and Peter Herbolzheimer. The Lungau Big Band released their debut album 15 Years Later in 1997, featuring Lynne Kieran. Subsequent releases include Soulmiles (2003), featuring Tony Momrelle, and Monk's Progress (2005). The band has also undertaken various themed projects, such as A Tribute to Frank Sinatra, collaborating with notable vocalists like Philipp Weiss. Their live performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2000 was captured on the album Live at Montreux.
