Eduard Brunner was born on July 14, 1939, in Basel, Switzerland. He studied at the Basel Conservatory and the Paris Conservatory under Louis Cahuzac. At 20, he began his career as a soloist and chamber musician, collaborating with Heinz Holliger and Aurèle Nicolet. Brunner served as principal clarinetist for the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra from 1962 to 1963 and later joined the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Munich under Rafael Kubelík until 1993. He taught at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Saarbrücken. Notable recordings include Clarinet Concertos, Vol. 1 (1992) and Dal Niente (1997). Brunner premiered compositions by Helmut Lachenmann, Isang Yun, and Krzysztof Meyer. His final public performance was at the Saarbrücken Summer Music Festival in 2016 with Et Arsis piano quartet. Brunner passed away on April 27, 2017.
