Marta Emilia Valdés González, also known as Marta Valdés, born July 6, 1934, in Havana, Cuba, was a Cuban composer, singer, and guitarist. She studied under Francisqueta Vallalta, Leopoldina Núñez, and Vicente González, and at the Seminario de Música Popular. Her first song, "Palabras", was composed in 1955, with her initial recorded work being "No es preciso", sung by Fernando Álvarez in 1957. Vicentino Valdés recorded her bolero "En la imaginación", leading to collaborations with artists like Elena Burke and Cheo Feliciano. Valdés' music was featured in various productions, including the film Preludio 11. She received the Síncopa de Plata for the album Elena Burke canta a Marta Valdés and won awards at the National Music Competition of UNEC in 1985. In 2007, she was awarded the National Prize for Music. Notable works include albums like Doce Boleros Míos. Marta Valdés passed away in October 2024, in Havana, at the age of 90.
