Patrick Martin, born in 1947 in Mèze, France, is an Occitan singer and composer who emerged from the cultural milieu of the Thau lagoon. Early studies in Montpellier under Robert Lafont positioned him among the pioneers of the Nòva cançon movement, where he began performing in Occitan and addressing regional themes in songs such as "E mamet" and "Lo condamnat". In 1970 he released his first singles on Ventadorn, and by 1974 he had issued the album Patric, followed by Bestiari in 1976 and a live recording Patric en public in 1978. The 1980s saw a shift to his own label, Aurora Production, founded in 1990, where he released Embarcadère (1991), Castellorizo (1993), and Les plus beaux chants d’Occitanie (1993–1998). In the 2000s he continued with Made in Occitània (2001), Ocsessions (2007), and Colors (2010), while also recording a 2012 album of Esperanto translations. Throughout his career Patrick Martin has maintained a focus on Occitan cultural preservation, with his work regularly featured in regional festivals and broadcasts, and his 2020 autobiography documenting the Nòva cançon movement.
