Carme Canela i Mir, known professionally as Carme Canela, born in Barcelona, Spain, in 1962. She is a Spanish singer specializing in jazz. Canela began her musical career at 16 as a vocalist for the Orquestra Encantada, recording four LPs with them. Her early training included studies with Dee Kohanna and vocal technique workshops. Canela's discography spans several decades, beginning with Poti, Poti (Un Recull De Les Cançons Més Populars Catalanes) in 1992. Notable albums include Univers Miles (2004) with Lluís Vidal, Els Nostres Estàndards (2006), and Granito de Sal (2014). She has collaborated extensively with international jazz musicians such as David Xirgu, Joan Monné, Bruce Barth, and Kurt Rosenwinkel. In 2007, she presented her project, Carme Canela canta Gioconda Belli. Sencillos Deseos, setting the poetry of Nicaraguan poet Gioconda Belli to jazz music. She received the Catalan Disc of the Year Award in 1997 for her contributions to jazz music.
