Dieter Ammann, born on May 17, 1962, in Aarau, Switzerland, is a musician and composer. Growing up in a musical household, Ammann studied at the Akademie für Schul- und Kirchenmusik Luzern and the Swiss Jazz School in Bern. He began his career as a musician in the early 1980s, performing with the band Donkey Kong’s Multi Scream and collaborating with artists such as Eddie Harris and Peter Brötzmann. Ammann later shifted his focus to composition, earning numerous awards including the Aargauer Kuratorium Förderungspreis (1991) and the Hauptpreis am int. Kompositionswettbewerb der IBLA-Foundation New York (1996). His works have been performed internationally, with notable pieces including "Piece for Cello" (1994), The Freedom of Speech (1995/96), and his orchestral compositions such as Boost (2000/01) and Turn (2010). Ammann was also a professor at the Musikhochschule Luzern and granted honorary citizenship of the city of Zofingen in 2010.
