Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar, born on May 19, 1890, in Ariyakudi, Tamil Nadu, India, was a Carnatic music vocalist. He began his musical journey under the tutelage of Pudukottai Malayappa Iyer and Namakkal Narasimha Iyengar before studying with Poochi Srinivasa Iyengar. His debut performance at Tyagaraja Aradhana in 1918 marked a significant milestone in his career. Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar is credited with establishing modern katcheri (concert) traditions in Carnatic music and developed a unique singing style known as The Ariyakudi Tradition. He collaborated extensively with mridangam maestro Palghat Mani Iyer, forming a notable partnership on the concert platform. Throughout his career, he released several albums including, Great Masters - Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar, Stalwarts, and Thyagaraja Krithis. His contributions were recognized with numerous awards, including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship in 1954 and Padma Bhushan in 1958. Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar passed away on January 23, 1967.
