Peter Ablinger was an Austrian composer. He studied jazz piano in Graz from 1977 to 1982 and composition with Gösta Neuwirth and Roman Haubenstock-Ramati. Until 1994, he concentrated primarily on chamber music ensembles, after which he expanded his work to include electroacoustic music and sound installations. Notable early albums include Werk 89-91 (1996) and Violoncello (1998). His compositions frequently explored the concept of white noise through different media, most prominently in the long-running Weiss/Weisslich complex. In 2012, Ablinger was appointed a member of the Akademie der Künste in Berlin. During his career he received several awards, including the Förderpreis des Kunstpreis Berlin (1998) and the Andrzej Dobrowolsky Composition Prize (2008). His works were presented at major festivals such as the Wiener Festwochen and the Donaueschingen Music Days. Albinger died in Berlin on April 17, 2025.
