Walter Hilgers, born in 1959, in Stolberg, Germany, is a tubist known for his multifaceted career as an orchestral musician, soloist, academic music teacher, arranger, and conductor. He studied at the University School of Music and Dance Cologne from 1976 to 1978, earning an artistic diploma with distinction. His professional journey began in 1978 with the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra, followed by engagements at the Bayreuth Festival (1979–1991) and Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra (1981–1991). Hilgers also performed with the brass ensemble German Brass from 1979 to 2007. His conducting roles include Artistic Director of the Paul Constantinescu Philharmonic Orchestra Ploieşti and Chief Conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica Provincial de Santa Fé/Argentina. Hilgers has recorded numerous CDs, both as a conductor and soloist, with works by composers including Mahler, Stravinsky, Schulhoff, and Vaughan Williams.
