Jazz trumpet player, composer and educator Tom Arthurs was born on July 18, 1980, in England. He is known for his diversity, drawing inspiration from many different influences including the groundbreaking work of artists such as Kenny Wheeler, Jimmy Giuffre, David Sylvian, and others. His resume includes performing or recording with Jack DeJohnette, Steve Beresford, Jim Black, Ingrid Laubrock, John Surman, Theo Bleckmann, and many more. Tom Arthurs was chosen as one of the first BBC New Generation Artists for jazz (2008-10). His debut album, Centripede, was released in 2003 and was followed three years later by Squash Recipe (2006) featuring Bruce McKinnon and Joe Sorbara. Throughout his career, most of his albums found him collaborating with a variety of musicians including Richard Fairhurst (2007’s Mesmer and 2012’s Postcards from Pushkin). As a member of quartet H3B – also featuring Denis Bedault, Régis Huby, and Sébastien Boisseau – Tom Arthurs’ distinctive playing can be found on the albums H3B (2010) and Songs No Songs (2012). With a PhD from the University of Edinburgh, he has also turned his talents to teaching. He has given lessons, lectures, and workshops in both England and Germany.
