Yonatan Tagger is a drummer and composer, shaped by years of musical exploration and a rich artistic heritage. As both a modern jazz drummer and a young member of the renowned Banai family, he draws from a broad spectrum of influences. His music bridges tradition and innovation, East and West, New York jazz and the melodies of his family’s ancient synagogue.
After developing his craft at Berklee College of Music, Tagger returned to Israel, where he weaves global influences into a deeply personal and spiritual sound that transcends genre.
His debut album," Look Above", was born from a place of deep personal loss and inner searching. The music unfolds as an emotional journey, moving between intimate ballads like “In My Dreams We Meet Again,” driving grooves like “Don’t You See?”, and fresh arrangements of ancient Hebrew liturgy (piyutim). The album reflects Tagger’s desire to find meaning and beauty through music - to grieve, to reconnect, and to heal.
Tagger’s music reimagines the intersection of jazz and local culture with contemporary insight and emotional depth.
