Cat Mother and The All-Night Newsboys is an American musical group formed in New York City in 1967 by Roy Michaels and Bob Smith. Initially, the band included Bob Smith on vocals, keyboards, and drums; Roy Michaels on vocals and bass guitar; William David "Charlie" Chin on vocals and guitar; Larry Packer on guitar and violin; and Michael Equine on drums and guitar. The group gained traction through regular performances at Cafe Wha? in New York City, leading to an engagement as the house band at New York's Electric Circus. Their breakthrough came with "Good Old Rock 'n' Roll", a rock and roll medley that reached number 13 in Canada and number 21 on the U.S. Billboard Pop Chart in the summer of 1969. This single, produced by Jimi Hendrix, included cover versions of classic rock songs and was later covered by the Dave Clark Five. The band's first album, The Street Giveth... And The Street Taketh Away, was also produced by Hendrix and released in 1969. Notable appearances include opening for Hendrix on several occasions and performing at the Toronto Rock and Roll Revival. Their second album, Albion Doo-Wah..., was released in 1970 and featured Jay Ungar on violin and mandolin. The band's final album, Cat Mother Last Chance Dance, was released in 1973. Cat Mother and The All-Night Newsboys continued to perform until 1977.
