Peter Grudzien, an American country/psychedelic singer-songwriter and musician, was born in 1941. He grew up listening to classical music before discovering country music and artists like Hank Williams and Johnny Horton. At age 16, Grudzien signed his first recording contract with the Pell Brothers, for whom he wrote lyrics while they composed the music. In the 1960s and '70s, he was active in the Greenwich Village folk/bluegrass scene, collaborating with artists such as John Herald and Peter Stampfel. His debut album, The Unicorn, released in 1974, featured Grudzien's own compositions and performances. The CD release of the album included a cover of "There's a Star Spangled Banner Waving Somewhere" with openly gay sentiments. In 2018, a documentary about Peter and his family, The Unicorn, was released. Grudzien passed away in 2013.
