Kōhachirō Miyata, born in 1938 in Japan, is a shakuhachi flautist and composer. He began his career performing both traditional and contemporary music. In 1976, he recorded with Ensemble Nipponia in the United States. Miyata's recordings have been published by Nonesuch Records, JVC, and King Records. His release Shakuhachi: The Japanese Flute was first available in 1997. Among his students were Clive Bell, Fukuda Teruhisa, Larry Tyrrell, and Rodrigo Rodriguez.
