Yoshikazu Mera, born 米良美一 on May 21, 1971, in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan, is a notable countertenor singer. He graduated from Senzoku-Gakuen College as the top student and initially trained as a tenor before transitioning to countertenor during his third year of vocal studies. Mera's breakthrough came with his solo performance in Gioacchino Rossini's Petite messe solenelle in October 1992, followed by the countertenor solo in Leonard Bernstein's Skylark in March 1994 under the direction of Kazuyoshi Akiyama. He won the first prize at the 8th Yamanashi Early Music Competition and an award at the 6th Tochigi Music Festival in May 1994, and the third prize at the 6th Sōgakudo Japanese Art Song Competition in 1995. Mera frequently performs with the Bach Collegium Japan, performing Baroque music under Masaaki Suzuki's direction. He also contributed to the soundtrack of the animated film Princess Mononoke, releasing the single "Princess Mononoke" in 1997.
