David & the Citizens was a rock band formed in 1999 in Skåne, Sweden and led by singer-songwriter David Fridlund. The group debuted in 2001 with the EP David & the Citizens on Adrian Recordings, followed by the album For All Happy Endings in 2002. Their 2003 release, Until the Sadness Is Gone, reached number 20 on the Swedish charts and received a Swedish Grammy Award nomination. The video for "Song Against Life" reached Number 1 on the MTV Nordic Charts. After moving to Bad Taste Records, the ensemble released the minialbum Are You in My Blood? and the studio album Stop the Tape! Stop the Tape! in 2006. Following various lineup changes, Fridlund announced a hiatus in 2008. The Grammy-nominated lineup reunited for a one-off performance at the Malmo Festival in August 2022.
