Agustín Cipriano Irusta was an Argentine actor and tango singer born on 28 August 1903 in Rosario. He began singing during his adolescence and received vocal training from Andrés Chazarreta during his military service. He founded a vocal duo with Roberto Fugazot in 1926 and later joined the trio Irusta-Fugazot-Demare in 1927. They performed extensively in Europe, where Irusta starred in the Spanish films Boliche (1933) and Aves sin rumbo (1934). His compositions include the tangos “A cara o cruz”, “Dos vidas”, and “Mi fortuna”. He co-wrote the vals “El trovero” and the tango “Dandy”, both of which were recorded by Carlos Gardel. Irusta returned to Argentina in 1936 to continue his film career, appearing in Ya tiene comisario el pueblo (1936) and Puerta cerrada (1939). He lived in Venezuela for the final 30 years of his life and performed on television until he died on 25 April 1987 in Caracas.
