Alenka Gotar, born on August 23, 1977, in Rodica, is a Slovene soprano singer. She attended a small music school, learning piano and guitar, before attending the music and ballet school in Ljubljana. After graduating in 1996, she studied singing at the Musical Academy in Basel, Switzerland, and later at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg, earning her diploma in 2000 and a master's degree in 2006. Her breakthrough moment came in 2007 when she represented Slovenia in the Eurovision Song Contest with "Cvet z juga" ("Flower of the South"), placing 7th in the semi-final and 15th in the final, becoming the first Slovene to qualify for the Eurovision grand final. Gotar has appeared as a guest performer at the Maribor Opera and as a soloist in state theatres in Salzburg and Ljubljana, and has toured with orchestras and chamber choirs in Slovenia, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Croatia, and Scandinavia.
