In a world that moves faster every day, true talent stands out. When the singer Erik Grönwall stepped onto the stage of Swedish prime-time television in 2009 and delivered an unforgettable version of Iron Maiden’s ”Run To The Hills”, it was more than just another talent show performance. It was an introduction to one of the best rock voices ever coming from Sweden. That Erik later would go on and win the Swedish edition of the worldwide success ”Idol” surprised no one that watched the show. But what happened next, that’s where Erik showed that he’s neither a product nor a puppet who gets his strings pulled by others – he’s a man destined to walk his on path. A man who chose to build his own career on his own terms.
That decision led him to the Swedish melodic rock powerhouse HEAT. Already respected within the international melodic rock scene, the band entered a new era with Erik as their frontman. Their first album together, ”Address The Nation” (2012), was embraced by both fans and critics and marked a turning point for the band. With Erik’s powerful vocals and commanding stage presence, HEAT quickly evolved into one of the most exciting live acts in modern melodic rock.
The success continued with ”Tearing Down The Walls” (2014) and a relentless touring schedule that took the band across Europe and beyond. Over the course of ten intense years, Erik and HEAT built a reputation as one of the hardest-working bands on the scene. Releasing multiple studio and live albums while performing hundreds of shows around the world.
During that same period Erik expanded his artistic range with his acclaimed portrayal of Simon Zealotes in ”Jesus Christ Superstar Live In Concert”. The televised production became a major success in the USA, reaching close to 10 million viewers. It also earned Erik a Grammy nomination for ”Best Musical Theatre Album”.
Then life took an unexpected turn. In 2021 Erik was diagnosed with leukemia. What followed was the toughest battle of his life. During the long months of treatment and recovery, music became more than a profession – it became a lifeline. Death was not an option and Erik later promised himself that if he made it out of the hospital alive, he would spend the rest of his life singing.
After a life-saving bone marrow transplant, he did. During his recovery Erik began sharing performances online. What started as a personal way to reconnect with music quickly grew into something much bigger. Through powerful interpretations of rock classics, his YouTube channel attracted millions of viewers worldwide, many of whom followed his journey through illness, recovery, and back to the stage. Singing became both therapy and a powerful connection with a global audience.
Meanwhile another opportunity appeared. Years earlier Erik had toured the UK with HEAT as the opening act for the legendary American band Skid Row. Night after night, his performances left a lasting impression on the band – particularly bassist Rachel Bolan. So, when Skid Row found themselves searching for a new singer in 2022, Bolan reached out to Erik with a simple message: ”Do you want to join the band?”
Only months after his bone marrow transplant, Erik stepped onto the stage in Las Vegas as the new frontman of Skid Row. Over the next two years the band released ”The Gang’s All Here”, their first full-length album in sixteen years, and embarked on extensive touring all over the world together with legendary acts like Scorpions and Kiss.
But recovery from leukemia is not a straight line. With ongoing medical checkups required in Sweden, the demands of constant international touring eventually forced Erik to make a difficult decision. In the spring of 2024, he stepped away from Skid Row to focus fully on his health and his future.
That future was already taking shape. When one door closes another one opens and that’s exactly what happened this time as well. Not in the sense of Erik’s collaboration or touring with the guitar virtuoso Michael Schenker (MSG, ex-UFO, Scorpions) in 2025-2026. But through the very same recovery that helped Erik heal from the cancer.
After years of fronting some of rock music’s most iconic acts Erik had built a massive global following, but his vision for the next chapter was clear: creating music that was entirely his own. Reuniting with longtime collaborator Jona Tee (HEAT) and renowned producer Fredrik Thomander, Erik began crafting the material that would define the next stage of his career.
The result is ”Bad Bones” – a declaration of independence and a return to the music that shaped Erik both as a fan and as an artist. From the swagger of the title track to the authentic 70:s vibe in the string orchestra enhanced ”Who’s The Winner” or the ever so self-explained ”Written In The Scars” it is clear that ”Bad Bones” is not just a new solo album. ”Bad Bones” is the sound of an artist who has fought his way back from the edge and is now stepping forward stronger, louder, and more fearless than ever. ”Bad Bones” is the first chapter in the rest of Erik’s career.
