László Szendrey-Karper, born on January 28, 1932 in Budapest, Hungary, was a notable guitarist and educator. He began playing guitar at five and studied under Ernő Kárpáthy. At 16, he performed his first public concert for Hungarian Radio. Szendrey-Karper initially pursued architecture but switched to music, enrolling at the State Conservatory in Budapest. In 1958, he played his first solo concert at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, an annual event until his death. He founded the guitar department at the Budapest State Conservatory in 1962 and later taught at the Franz Liszt Academy. Szendrey-Karper released Guitar Recital in 1963. He received numerous awards, including the Liszt Ference Price in 1962 and 1973 and the Villa-Lobos Prize in 1988. Szendrey-Karper passed away on February 12, 1991, in Budapest.
