Emil Sjögren, born on June 16, 1853, in Stockholm, Sweden, was a Swedish composer, organist, pianist, and educator. He began his musical education at the Stockholm Conservatory from 1869 to 1874, followed by studies under Friedrich Kiel at the Berlin University of the Arts from 1879 to 1890. Notable works include Violin Sonata No. 1 in G Minor, BWV 1001 (1720), 6 Songs of Julius Wolff's Tannhäuser, Op. 12 (1884), and Erotikon (1877-83), Op. 10. He passed away on March 1, 1918. Sjögren's contributions to Swedish classical music were recognized posthumously with the establishment of the Emil Sjögren Society in 2003.
