Timex Social Club is an American R&B group formed in 1985, originally known as the Timex Crew. The band included Marcus Thompson, Gregory "Greg B" Thomas, Michael Marshall, Craig Samuel, and Darrien Cleage. By 1986, Samuel, Cleage, and Thomas had departed, and Alex Hill and Kevin Moore joined, leading to the adoption of the name Timex Social Club. The group's breakthrough came with their hit single "Rumors", which peaked at number 8 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart, Number 1 on Billboard’s Hot Black Singles, Hot Dance/Disco Club Play, and Hot Dance/Disco 12 Inch Singles Sales charts. The song was initially released on Jay Records in October 1986 and later re-recorded for their album Vicious Rumors, which was produced by Jay Logan and distributed by Fantasy Records in the US. The group toured extensively, opening for acts such as Run DMC, New Edition, and Kool & the Gang. Despite their success, Timex Social Club disbanded in 1987 shortly after the peak of their hit song.
