António Pinho Vargas was born on August 15, 1951, in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. He is a musician and composer known for his work in jazz and contemporary music. After earning a degree in history from the University of Porto, he studied musical composition at the Rotterdam Conservatory from 1987 to 1990. His first jazz album, Outros Lugares, was released in 1983. In 1991, he began teaching musical composition at the Escola Superior de Música in Lisbon. Throughout his career, he composed soundtracks for Portuguese films and theatrical plays, as well as operas, orchestral, and ensemble works. His compositions were recorded by notable groups such as the Arditti Quartet and the Galliard Ensemble. In 2014, he released Requiem / Judas and Outro Fim.
