Underground Sound Of Lisbon was formed in 1993 by Portuguese producers Rui da Silva, then known as Doctor J, and DJ Vibe, real name Tó Pereira, who founded Kaos Records with promoter António Cunha; the duo began producing electronic tracks that combined tribal house and progressive elements. Their breakthrough came with the 1994 single "So Get Up", which gained traction in New York clubs through DJ Junior Vasquez and was released on Tribal America, establishing the group’s international presence; the track featured spoken‑word apocalyptic lyrics by Ithaka Darin Pappas. In 1998 the duo issued the mini‑album Are You Looking For Me?, followed by the compilation Early Years – The Singles Collection 1993–1998 in 1998 and the studio album Etnocity in 2000, the latter showcasing a more dreamy, progressive sound. Notable collaborations included Celeda on "Are You Looking For Me" and Danny Tenaglia on "Goosebumps" released under the NYLX moniker in 1997, which highlighted the group’s international reach. After Etnocity, both members pursued separate projects-Rui da Silva relocated to London and founded Kismet Records, while DJ Vibe continued touring and mentoring emerging Portuguese producers-leading to an indefinite hiatus. The duo returned briefly to perform at the Rock in Rio Lisboa Electronic Stage in 2014, marking a rare reunion after their disbandment.
