Charmayne Maxena Maxwell, born on 11 January 1969 in Guyana, was a DJ and singer who later became known as Maxee. She first gained prominence in the mid‑1990s as a member of the R&B trio Brownstone, which secured a deal with MJJ Music and released the platinum‑certified album From the Bottom Up in 1995, featuring the Top‑10 single "If You Love Me". After the group disbanded, Maxwell relocated to London and signed with Mercury Records in 2000; her solo single "When I Look Into Your Eyes" entered the UK Singles Chart at number fifty‑five, while her follow‑up "This Is Where I Wanna Be" did not chart, leading to the cancellation of her planned solo album. Maxee’s career was cut short when she died on 28 February 2015 following a tragic accident in Los Angeles.
