The Ruby Suns was an indie pop band from Auckland, New Zealand, formed in 2004. Californian Ryan McPhun founded the group, which initially included Amee Robinson and Imogen Taylor under the name Ryan McPhun & the Ruby Suns. McPhun released the debut album The Ruby Suns on Lil’ Chief Records in 2005. In 2006, the group shortened the name to The Ruby Suns and embarked on a European tour.In 2007, the band signed with Sub Pop and released the recordings “There Are Birds” and “Sister Brother”. They toured with the Shins and released the second album, Sea Lion, in 2008. The Ruby Suns subsequently released the albums Fight Softly (2010) and Christopher (2013). By the release of the album Sprite Fountain in 2017, McPhun had relocated to Oslo, Norway. The band’s discography also included the Lichen Ears EP (2007).
