Swoop, an Australian seven-piece rock, funk, and disco band, was established in 1991 by Joshua Beagley on guitar and keyboards and Roland Kapferer on lead vocals. The duo met as students at Marryatville High School in Adelaide before relocating to Sydney. Their initial lineup included an ever-changing roster of rappers, DJs, musicians, and dancers. Swoop released their first singles "Positivity's Groove" (May 1992) and "Jelly Funk" (August). Fiona Ta'akimoeaka joined as a lead vocalist by November 1992, with other members including Chris Brien on drums, Armando Gomez on percussion, Alex 'Gob' Hewetson on bass guitar, and Breadman St Ledger III on keyboards. Their third single "Everybody Loves the Sunshine" was released in November 1992. In August 1993, they issued "Do It", which became a disco hit in Japan. The band's debut studio album Thriller was released in October 1993 via Freakzone Records/MGM Distribution. Their second album, The Woxo Principle, was released in November 1995 and reached Number 51 on the ARIA albums chart. "Apple Eyes" (October 1995) became their most popular single, peaking at Number 9 on the ARIA singles chart and certified gold by ARIA for shipment of 35000 copies. The band's third studio album Be What You Is was released in January 1999. Swoop disbanded after performing "Angel Eyes" at Mushroom 25 Concert in November 1998.
