Merengue, a Japanese rock band, was formed in 2002 by Kenji Kubo, who served as the vocalist, guitarist, and synthesizer player. The group's lineup solidified in 2003 when Takeshi Yamazaki joined as the drummer and Tsuyoshi Takeshita became the bassist. Their debut EP, ギンガ, was released in May 2002, setting the stage for their musical journey. Early releases such as the EPs 少女プラシーボ (2003) and サーチライト (2004) helped to establish Merengue's distinctive sound and build a foundation for their future work. Merengue released their first full-length album, 初恋サンセット, in October 2004. This was followed by a series of albums that showcased the band's evolving style, including Hoshinodekigoto (2006) and 星の出来事 (2006). The band's notable singles from this period include "カッシーニ/初恋のオマケ" (2003), "君に春を思う" (2005), and "アオバ" (2005). In 2013, Merengue signed with Ki/oon Music and contributed the sixth opening theme for the popular anime series Space Brothers, further expanding their reach. Their later albums include CAMPFIRE (2014) and notable singles such as "僕らについて" (2014).
