György Sándor was a Hungarian pianist and writer. He studied at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music with Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály. He debuted as a performer in 1930 and began his concert career in the 1930s, making his Carnegie Hall debut in New York in 1939. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps and Special and Intelligence Services from 1942 to 1944. After the war, Sándor returned to performing, known for his extensive repertoire. Throughout his career, Sándor recorded works by various composers for Columbia Masterworks and Vox Records. His recordings of Kodály and Prokofiev's complete piano works earned him the Grand Prix du Disque from the Académie Charles Cros in 1965. György Sándor died in New York on December 9, 2005.
