Kirsty McGee, born 1972 in Manchester, United Kingdom, is an English singer‑songwriter and guitarist whose work spans folk, Americana, blues, jazz and rockabilly. After completing a master’s degree in English Literature at the University of Sheffield, she entered the music scene with the 1991 compilation track "My Ex Lover's Address" on Waaaaah! and later performed with the bands Mrs Kipling and Slumber, releasing EPs in 1992 and 1993. Her first solo release, Rock & Roll (2000), established her acoustic credentials and led to a contract with Ugly Man Records, though the intended album Little Things remained unreleased. In 2002 she signed with Fellside Records for her debut full‑length Honeysuckle, which earned a nomination for Best Newcomer at the 2003 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Subsequent albums-Frost (2004), Two Birds (2006), and The Kansas Sessions (2008)-were issued on Park and Hobopop Records, the latter of which was recorded in Lawrence, Kansas. The 2013 single "Sandman" gained exposure through the film Trance, and the song was later released by Hobopop. Throughout her career, McGee collaborated with artists such as Marc Ribot, Mike West, Danny Schmidt, and Karine Polwart, and performed extensively across the UK and Europe, including a 2013 appearance in Antwerp. Her discography continued with Those Old Demons (2014).
