Gerhard Weinberger, born on July 31, 1948, in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm, Germany, is an organist and professor. He studied organ under Franz Lehrndorfer at the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts from 1967 to 1972 and won second prize in the organ category at the ARD International Music Competition in 1971. Weinberger served as choir director at the St. Lorenz Basilica in Kempten before becoming a professor at the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts in 1974 and later at the Detmold University of Music in 1983. He has performed extensively worldwide, premiered several organ works, and collaborated with his wife Beatrice-Maria Weinberger and his ensemble Die Deutschen Bach-Vocalisten. One of his most notable recordings was a complete set of Johann Sebastian Bach's organ works on historical organs which won the German Record Critics' Award in 2009.
