Go:Audio was formed in London, England in 2006, comprising James Matthews (lead vocals), Zack Wilkinson (guitar), Joshua Wilkinson (synthesiser, programming, backing vocals), and Andy Booth (drums). The group entered the music scene with the single "Woodchuck" in January 2008, followed by the EP Woodchuck EP in March 2008, which received heavy rotation on Kerrang! 105.2 and propelled the band into the UK Top 40. In May 2008 the single "Made Up Stories" was released, earning a spot on Kerrang! and Scuzz, and the title track later appeared on their debut album Made Up Stories (released 11 May 2009). The band’s second single, "She Left Me", peaked at number 41 on the UK Singles Chart in August 2008, while the third single, "Drive to the City", reached Number 1 on the MTV2 Music Chart in April 2009. Go:Audio signed with Epic Records in May 2007, left the label in September 2008, and subsequently launched their own imprint, Rubix Records. The group toured extensively, supporting acts such as McFly and Bowling for Soup, and headlined festivals including Download and Tuborg Stage. On 26 November, 2009 the band announced their split; members later pursued careers in music management, songwriting, and production. In 2020 they resurfaced on social media to release previously unreleased material recorded under the name The Vacancy.
