Iron Monkey, a British sludge metal band from Nottingham, was formed in 1994 by Justin Greaves, Johnny Morrow, Jim Rushby, Steve Watson, and Doug Dalziel. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1996, brought them international underground recognition. In 1997, Iron Monkey signed with Earache Records following financial difficulties. Their debut album Our Problem, produced by Andy Sneap, was released in August 1998 and received positive reviews. The band's subsequent EP We’ve Learned Nothing was released in 1999 through Man’s Ruin Records. Financial struggles persisted, leading to the band's disbandment in September 1999 following a tour with Pro-Pain. Johnny Morrow passed away in 2002 due to health complications. In 2017, Steve Watson and Jim Rushby reformed Iron Monkey under Relapse Records, with Scott Briggs as a new addition.
