When the Cat's Away, a female vocal group from New Zealand, was formed in 1985 by Annie Crummer, Debbie Harwood, Kim Willoughby, Dianne Swann, and Margaret Urlich. The group debuted at Auckland's Wildlife in September 1986 and signed with CBS Records. Their debut album, When the Cat's Away, was released in 1987. Their breakthrough came with the cover of Blue Mink's "Melting Pot", which reached Number One in New Zealand in November 1988. They won several awards, including Entertainers of the Year and Group of the Year that same year. In 2001, the band reformed without Dianne Swann and released a cover of Sharon O'Neill's "Asian Paradise", followed by a live album Live in Paradise. The group was inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame in December 2021. A 2023 concert in honor of deceased member Margaret Urlich was followed by a New Zealand tour in 2024.
