The son of a pastor, Denis Raisin Dadre was born in Vaux-sur-Mer (Charente-Maritime) on July 25, 1956. A musicology student in Lyon, he took a particular interest in Renaissance music, and began studying various instruments: the recorder with Gabriel Garrido in Geneva, and the oboe and reeds in Paris. In 1981, after obtaining a degree in musicology and a certificate of aptitude in early music, he began a career as an instrumentalist in various ensembles, including the flute trio I Dilettanti, before founding the ensemble Doulce Mémoire in 1990, taking the name of a group known in the 16th century by the same name. Based in Paris and Tours, the chamber music orchestra offers period performances and specializes in works by lesser-known composers, including the publisher Attaingnant, Jacques Moderne, Eustache Du Caurroy, Cristobal de Morales and Antoine de Févin, with thematic recordings: Lorenzo Il Magnifico - Chants de Carnaval 1449-1492 (1998), Henri IV & Marie de Médicis: Messe de Mariage (2000), Le Siècle du Titien (2001), Viva Napoli (2003), Léonard de Vinci - L'Harmonie du Monde (2003), Laudes (2009), La Porte de Félicité - Constantinople 1453 (2012) or Leonardo da Vinci: La Musique Secrète (2019). Professor in the early music department of the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional de Tours, he founded his own international academy, Le Droict Chemin de Musique, in 2003. Named Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 1999, Denis Raisin Dadre was promoted to the rank of Officer in 2004. On September 25, 2025, the 69-year-old musician was found dead in his home.
