Simon Stockhausen, born on June 5, 1967, in Bensberg, Germany, is a German composer. He received his musical training from his father, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and various private teachers. Stockhausen's first public performance was as a synthesizer player in his father's composition Sternklang in 1980. After graduating from high school in 1986, he toured globally with his father's ensemble and contributed to the electronic music production of two operas from the Licht cycle. In 1982, he began collaborating with his half-brother Markus Stockhausen in various ensembles, notably forming the jazz trio Aparis with Jo Thönes, which released two albums on ECM Records. Notable compositions include KölnMusik Fantasy (1991), Jubilee (1996), and nonDuality (2005), all of which were co-written with Markus Stockhausen.
