Roland Bürger, known professionally as Bürgermeista, was born in Grüntegernbach bei Dorfen, a village north‑east of Munich, and worked as a project manager for a telecommunications firm before pursuing music full‑time in Untergiesing. His breakthrough came with the 2009 single "Locker macha", recorded in a reggae style with professional studio colleagues and promoted to local radio stations; the track reached Number one on Amazon’s Reggae & Ska downloads and entered the German single charts, remaining in the Top 40 for seven weeks. In 2010 Bürgermeista released his debut album Gewählt with the ensemble Bürgermeista & die Gemeinderäte under the label 313music JWP, followed by the singles "Guad", "Do reggae mi ned auf", and "Heid is da ois is ma Wurst-Dog" in 2011. The group’s releases were supported by radio airplay and a promotional video, and the album contributed to Bürgermeista’s visibility within the German reggae and world‑music scenes. Throughout his career, Bürgermeista has collaborated with other local artists, contributed guitar work to Tom Novy’s Welcome to the Race, and recorded music for television broadcasters, solidifying his reputation as a versatile guitarist and songwriter in Munich’s contemporary music landscape.
