Dennis Yost (born July 20, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan) was an American singer who became the frontman of the rock group Classics IV. After moving to Jacksonville at age seven, Dennis Yost played drums and sang with local bands before joining The Echoes, a high‑school ensemble that would later evolve into Classics IV. The group’s breakthrough came in 1967 when their single "Spooky" entered the Billboard Hot 100, followed by chart‑toppering hits "Stormy" (Number 4, 1967) and "Traces" (Number 12, 1969) under Capitol and later Imperial Records. In 1970 Dennis Yost was the sole original member remaining, prompting the band to adopt the name Dennis Yost and the Classics IV; subsequent releases on United Artists and MGM South yielded modest success, with the final Top 40 single "What Am I Crying For" reaching Number 39 in 1972. After disbanding the group in 1975, Dennis Yost pursued solo work, releasing Going Through the Motions (1981) and later engaging in songwriting and producing in Nashville from 1993. He regained the Classics IV name in the early 2000s, returned to touring, and was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 1993. Dennis Yost died from respiratory failure on December 7, 2008, at age 65, leaving a legacy marked by several Top 40 hits and influence on 1960s rock.
