David Akeman, known professionally as Stringbean, was born on June 17, 1915, in Annville, Kentucky. He began his musical journey influenced by his father's performances. In 1935, Akeman participated in a talent contest organized by Asa Martin, which led to his professional debut with Martin’s band, the Kentucky Hillbillies. Over the years, he performed with various bands including the Blue Grass Boys, led by Bill Monroe. He continued performing until his death in 1973. His career highlights included his long-standing membership with the Grand Ole Opry. Akeman released the album More Of That Rare Old Time Banjo Pickin' And Singin' in 1962.
