Pembe Nihal Munsif, known professionally as Nil Burak, was born on April 27, 1948, in Lefke, Cyprus. She is a Turkish Cypriot pop singer and actress who gained prominence in Turkey and Northern Cyprus. She began her music career by singing in the choir of the Cyprus Fine Arts Association before performing at nightclubs in London and Istanbul. In 1977, she released her debut album Nil Burak. Throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s, Nil Burak continued to release albums including Benim Adım Şarkıcı (1979), Boş Vere Boş Vere (1980) and Bizim Diyar (1982). She came in third in the 1985 Eurovision Song Contest Turkish Final with "Güneş Bir Kere Doğdu" ("The sun rose once"). Notable songs include "Sen de Başını Alıp Gitme" and "O Şarkıyı Henüz Yazmadım". She has also appeared in several films, including Gülşah (1975) and Eksik Etek (1976).
