Mozaik, a multicultural folk band formed in 2002, consisted of Andy Irvine, Dónal Lunny, Bruce Molsky, Nikola Parov, and Rens van der Zalm. The group's repertoire included Irish traditional songs, Southeastern European/Balkan folk music, and Old-timey songs. Mozaik's debut album, Live from the Powerhouse, was released in 2004 following a successful Australian tour. Their subsequent studio album, Changing Trains, was recorded in Budapest in November 2005 and released in 2006. In June 2012, Andy Irvine celebrated his 70th birthday with concerts at Dublin's Vicar Street, featuring various collaborations including members of Mozaik; these performances were later released as a CD and DVD. The band continued to tour extensively across Australia, Europe, the USA, and Japan. In 2019, the band released The Long and the Short of It.
