Hamburger Symphoniker, a symphony orchestra in Hamburg, was founded in 1957 by Ernst Marcus. The orchestra's inaugural chief conductor was Robert Heger. In its early years, Hamburger Symphoniker established itself as a prominent musical ensemble through regular performances and collaborations with notable conductors such as István Kertész. Throughout the decades, Hamburger Symphoniker released numerous albums, including Haydn's Toy Symphony in C Major, Opus 62 / Haydn's Surprise Symphony No. 94 in G Major (1964), and Brahms' Symphony No 1 in C Minor (1977). The orchestra has performed extensively both domestically and internationally, with tours spanning countries like Japan, the USA, and China. Notable collaborations include performances with artists such as Martha Argerich, Daniel Barenboim, and Plácido Domingo. Since 2018, Hamburger Symphoniker has hosted the annual Martha Argerich Festival in Hamburg's Laeiszhalle. The orchestra is recognized for its innovative approach to concert experiences, integrating elements of theater, film, video, and light art into performances.
