Luther Thomas Ingram, born on 30 November 1937 in Jackson, Tennessee, was an American R&B and soul singer. His early interest in music saw him form a gospel group, the Alton Crusaders, which included his brothers Archie Ingram and Richard Ingram. They later moved on to doo-wop and recorded as The Gardenias for Federal Records in 1956. Ingram's first solo record was released in 1965. However, it wasn't until he signed with KoKo Records that he achieved his breakthrough hit "My Honey and Me", which peaked at number 55 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1970. His most successful record, "(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don't Want to Be Right", reached number one on the Billboard R&B chart and number three on the Hot 100 in 1972. The song remained in the Hot 100 for 18 weeks. Other notable tracks include "Ain't That Loving You (For More Reasons Than One)", "Let's Steal Away to the Hideaway", and "I'll Be Your Shelter (In Time of Storm)". He also co-authored "Respect Yourself" for the Staple Singers, which became a million-seller in 1971. He recorded into the 1980s and performed in concert until his health began declining in the mid-1990s. Luther Thomas Ingram died on 19 March 2007, at a hospital in Belleville, Illinois, due to heart failure.
