Casey Kelly is an American songwriter and musician born in 1949 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He achieved professional recognition for a career that began with the ensemble Greek Fountains. After working as a session musician and singer in New York City, he toured with Tom Rush. Kelly relocated to Los Angeles, and released a single through Warner Brothers Records before establishing the Luziana Band with A&M Records. His recording career included the studio recordings Casey Kelly (1972) and For Sale (1973) released through Elektra Records. He toured with the performers America and Frank Zappa. After relocating to Nashville in 1978, he achieved professional recognition for writing tracks including “Anyone Who Isn't Me Tonight” (1978) which reached number 2 and received a Grammy Award nomination. Kelly wrote the tracks “Somewhere Down the Line” (1984) which reached number 3, and “The Cowboy Rides Away” (1985) which reached number 5. His discography included the track “Poor Boy” and the studio recording Himownself: The Hits (1995). He achieved professional recognition for the track “Soon” (1993) which reached number 2 and received a Grammy Award nomination. He wrote the tracks “That Road Not Taken” (1995) which reached number 40 and “Resign Yourself” for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. In 2011, he co-authored the book The Complete Idiot's Guide to the Art of Songwriting.
