Matt Hires, born on August 5, 1985, in Tampa, Florida, is an American singer-songwriter. Initially working as a cabinet store worker by day and musician by night, he began his music career as the frontman for the band Brer. His breakthrough came when Atlantic Records A&R executive Gregg Nadel discovered his sound, leading to a signing with F-Stop Music, an imprint of Atlantic Records. In 2008, he released his debut EP Live From the Hotel Café, which garnered critical acclaim and comparisons to artists like Jack Johnson and John Mayer. His first full-length album, Take Us to the Start (2009), featured the single "Honey Let Me Sing You a Song" and tracks that appeared on various television shows, including Grey's Anatomy. He continued with subsequent releases such as Forever EP (2013) and the album This World Won't Last Forever, But Tonight We Can Pretend (2013).
